There is therefore no doubt that interval training is very good for increasing aerobic capacity, but it’s obvious that not everyone likes it. Many of my patients, even the very elderly, like this kind of training because “it goes faster” or “it’s more fun,” while others find on the contrary that it’s “too aggressive” and prefer to stay with “normal” continuous moderate physical activity, like walking. But since the most difficult thing is to maintain the effort over the long term and not to abandon it after only a few months, I advise varying the kind of physical activity you do as much as possible by incorporating interval training into your routine from time to time. Doing different exercises in different ways maximizes the likelihood of continuing to exercise for life. That’s what counts.
